The Neverending Dance is a true tale of what happened to me from summer 1967 till December 1968 in London, Paris and Rome, told in verse. Paris’s left bank, Roma Dolce Vita, and the Cannes Film Festival—almost everyone mentioned was well known in their own fields. When I wrote it, I felt as if I had lifted off the ground, almost flying with joy at the memory of it. It was another time, different from today’s time.
Pigalo and Billikins stumble upon a lamp with a genie inside while exploring Pigalo’s garden. The two friends live in a quaint town among other cultured pigs, all well-dressed and dedicated to organizing the Four Season Balls: Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter. Life is never dull for them, but they reluctantly accept the genie’s offer to grant them a wish, deciding on a simple picnic in a beautiful place. Suddenly, they, along with a picnic basket and deck chairs, are whisked away to a stunning lake in the middle of a forest.
But there’s a problem: they forgot to bring the lamp. The genie had disappeared, and now they’re stranded with no idea how to get home or where they even are.
Meanwhile, in the lake, a princess, cursed into the form of a fish by a jealous sorcerer perhaps a thousand years ago, awaits her rescue. And so begins the adventure of Pigalo and Billikins.
